Neighbourhood legal services is a non-profit and independent community legal clinic that has been serving the community since 1973. We provide free legal services and help to low-income people who live in out catchment area and qualify for out services. We follow this Code of Ethics in all our work.
We work under a volunteer Board of Directors. As a non-profit corporation, our Members play an important role in overseeing our services.
Neighbourhood Legal Services provides direct legal services to more than 1500 clients and community members each year. We also make hundreds of referrals and assist with hundreds more through out public legal education, law reform and community development work.
NLS is able to provide high quality services to so many people thanks to our highly motivated and dedicated staff and Board of directors, and from the support of the community.We are also able to learn from highly experienced experts in the legal clinic system as a whole. These resources allow us to consult on and get opinions or litigation support in difficult cases. We also benefit form Legal Aid Ontario’s expert Clinic Resource Office. These resources allow us to deliver quality services at a level we could never do alone.
